Abstract:
Setal maps of the head, pro, meso and metathoracic segments of 4th, 5th and 6th instar larvae of Sylepta derogata Fabricius have been prepared. Two types of setae i.e. microscopic and tactile setae were observed. The microscopic setae occur near the margins of most of the thoracic and abdominal segments, while the tactile setae are distributed throughout the body. The distribution and length of setae on the thoracic and abdominal segments provide important features for the separation of instars, while the distribution on the head is of little importance.
