Abstract:
The influence of prolonged heat treatment on tensile and impact properties of the steel is presented in this paper. Tests using Tensile Specimens and charpy V-notch Specimens were conducted to show the effect of stress relief on mechanical properties of C-Mn (0. 29 C 0. 79 Mn) steel. The Ultimate Tensile Strength (U. T. S) yield strength, ductility, hardness and energy absorption are presented graphically. Reduction of U. T. S. and Y. S. and increase of ductility and Charpy impact energy have been observed and it is concluded that larger changes of these properties occur with prolonged or repeated treatments.
