Abstract:
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin and is one of eight B vitamins. It is required by animals, which use it as a cofactor in organic acid and amino acid metabolism. It is important in the functioning of the nervous system via its role in the synthesis of myelin, and in the circulatory system in the maturation of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Plants do not need cobalamin and carry out the reactions with enzymes that are not dependent on it. Only some archaea and bacteria can synthesize vitamin B12. Most people in developed countries failed verification] get enough B12 from the consumption of meat or foods with animal sources. Foods containing vitamin B12 include meat, clams, liver, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy products. On the other hand, it is well known that there are vitamin B12 related compounds including vitamin B12 and that some algae contains substantial amounts of vitamin B12. We investigated the presence of vitamin B12 in seaweed including Nori, which is commonly used in “Sushi”. As a result, we found that Nori contains vitamin B12 and is possible to function as a source of vitamin B12. I would like to refer some results of non-animal source of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 deficiency is pernicious anemia is a disease in which not enough red blood cells are produced. It also known to cause severe and irreversible damage, especially to the brain and nervous system. At levels only slightly lower than normal, vitamin B12 deficiency can also cause symptoms of many of neurological disorders. Among other problems, weakened immunity, reduced fertility and interruption of blood circulation in women may occur. The cause of the symptoms is not solved to date. Here we started the metabolomic analysis with GCMS to solve the problem. One is to analyze the change of metabolism in a vitamin B12-deficient animal model and the other is vitamin B12-metabolizing enzyme RNAi neural cell model. I would like to present the data on them. Finally it is an emerging issue to enrich the micronutrient in plant crops to maintain human health good. I would like to discuss the vitamin rich plant culture with the participants.
