Abstract:
Hypoprothrombin inducing drugs like dicoumarol and warfarin affect the prothrombin time in blood coagulation. However, no investigation has so far been carried out to study the effects of coumatetralyl and difenacoum on this parameter. In the present study the effect of coumatetralyl and difenacoum on prothrombin time was studied on rats (Tatera incida). The blood of control and treated groups of male and female rats was analysed for prothrombin time using simplastin method. It is noted that these two drugs were more potent than warfarin at 10 days. The female rats were found more susceptible to coumatetralyl and difenacoum. The effect of these two drugs on prothrombin time in comparision with other anticoagulants is discussed.
