Abstract:
A total of 21 wild boar specimens were collected from riverain forests between December 1978 and March 1979. Data on abundance, diet, age and reproduction were gathered. The average wild boar density was estimated to be 3.7 per square km (9.6 per sq. mile). Diet was varied and was 90% vegetable matter. Tuberous roots and leaves formed 23 and 37% of the diet, respectively. Agricultural crops like sugarcane, mustard and clover were also eaten, although rarely. Most animals were born in the cool winter months. Some methods for age estimation are discussed.
