Abstract:
A cloud point extraction method has been demonstrated using an ionic liquid (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexa?uorophosphate, [BMIM] PF6) for the determination of two widely used phenolic antioxidants BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) and BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene) in toning lotion. The effects of concentration of ionic liquid, equilibration temperature and equilibration time on cloud point extraction were discussed and optimized to achieve the maximum extraction efficiency. Under the optimized conditions, the linear range of proposed method was excellent in the range of 1.0–500.0 µg.mL−1, excellent spiked recoveries were achieved for BHA and BHT ranged from 91.2% to 99.1%, the reproducibility (RSD, n=6) were in the range 1.1%-2.9%. The preconcentration factor was 33 and detection limits (S/N=3) were 2.1 ng. mL−1and 5.6 ng. mL−1for BHA and BHT, respectively.
