Abstract:
Effect of diverse hybrids and varying levels of nitrogen on yield and oil contents of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) was studied in the Agronomy Department, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during 2001-2002. Experimental treatments comprised two hybrids viz. P-6451 (standard height) and P-6424 (semi dwarf) and six nitrogen levels (0, 50, 100, 150. 200 and 250 kg/ha). Experiment was laid out in split plot design. During both years P-6451 hybrid proved superior to hybrid P-6424 in all parameters. Application of nitrogen upto 150 kg per hectare significantly increased head-diameter, number of achenes per head, 1000-achene weight and achene yield. On the basis of average of two years maximum achene yield (4930.5 kg/ha) was recorded in hybrid P-6451 when fertilized (a) 150 kg N per hectare.
