Abstract
Droplet penetration, evaporation and mixing are a strong function of droplet diameter `DP`. The present paper makes a computational study among various Dp by using FLUENT 6.3. Computational analysis was performed to record the variation in temperature distribution, droplet parameters (heat up period, evaporation time and penetration) and species concentration as a function of Dp of atomizing fuel. Three configurations resulted by varying Dp (10µm, 30µm and 50µm) were computationally evaluated. Six species (C12H23, O2, CO2, CO, H2O & N2) PDF (probability density function) has been applied for turbulence-chemistry interaction. Carbon mono-oxide is incorporated as intermediate specie that represents the partial oxidation of fuel. Combustor was simulated for over all fuel air ratio of 0.016 with 30 simple fuel injectors. Kerosene (C12H23) was used as a fuel with LHV of 43MJ/Kg. CFD simulations exhibit a good match with analytically calculated exhaust gas concentrations. Contours of CO, f and Ts plotted at discrete radial position depict the radial shift in reaction zone. Heat up time and evaporation time for atomizing droplets have been calculated and was found in good agreement with existing trends in literature.
