Abstract:
Berberine is a natural bioactive alkaloid compound found in nature with viable therapeutic and pharmacological properties such as antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, and hypoglycemic effects, making it a potent source for the development of new drugs and nutraceutical products. Recent Berberine's captivating biological properties have drawn more interest to researchers as a potential source of new therapeutic compounds. Several plants have berberine (BBR) in large amounts like coptis, Hydrastis, barberry, and tree turmeric. The chemical nature of berberine contains a bicyclic structure with the chemical formula that interacts with several molecular targets such as enzymes and receptors. Contemporary methods are employed to manufacture berberine artificially through biotechnology like metabolic engineering and elicitor techniques. The biochemical properties of berberine make it a promising compound for the enhancement of novel therapeutics for several diseases and conditions. Berberine (BBR) has a vital role in the treatment and suppression of many diseases. BBR having apoptotic, cell autophagy death, cell cycle arrest inducing character has efficacy against cancer treatment and suppression. BBR also has a significant role in the treatment of Diabetes, Cardiovascular dysfunction by myocardial apoptosis. Alzheimer's disease is activated because of amyloid beta aggregations which are effectively suppressed by BBR. Although most of the clinical and experimental studies of berberine are held on animal modules expect this BBR with biotechnological advancements has a potent role in disease suppression and recovery. This review provides an indepth examination of the many plant sources of berberine, as well as their chemical makeup, pharmacological activities, and prospective therapeutic applications.
