Abstract:
This paper discusses issues associated with the design and implementation of a digital control system for an active electromagnetic actuator. Experimental studies have been carried out to investigate the technical feasibility and economic acceptability of using a digitally controlled active electromagnetic actuator in an adaptive manner for the minimization of the synchronous response of a flexible rotor-bearing system. Various components of the system are described. The key point of the paper is the implementation of an adaptive open loop control strategy. The advantages that microcomputer based control offers over centralized mainframe or minicomputer control and the various ways in which the integration of the microcomputer in the control loop can be used to improve the data acquisition and control functions of the active electromagnetic actuator are discussed in detail. These features have been exploited for the successful implementation of an open loop adaptive vibration control strategy.
