Abstract:
A total number of 2540 stool samples were collected from different laboratories of Shikarpur during the period of March 2000 to April 2002 and were analyzed for various intestinal pathogenic parasites. Stools examination was done by direct microscopic examination. Total 842 (33.14% cases were found with intestinal pathogenic parasites in their stools. The Gardia lamblia was the commonest parasite present in 330 (39.19%) cases. Hymenolepis nana in 176 (20.90%) cases. Entamoeba histolytica in 130 (15.43%) cases. Ascaris lumbricoides in 125 (14.48%) cases. Ancylostoma duodenal in 36 (4.27%) cases. Enterobius vermicularis in 2-2 (2.61%) cases. Trichuris trichiura in 16 (1.91%) cases and Taenia species in 07 (0.83%) cases. The frequency of parasitic infection is high in Shikarpur possibly due to the low standard of living, poor sanitation and warm climate in this area.
