Abstract:
Seven species belonging to the genera: Closterium, Cosmarium, Euastrum, Hydrodictyon and Pleurotaenium from phylum Volvocophyta and five species of the genera: Cymbella, Diatoma, Gyrosigma and Nitzschia from phylum Bacillariophyta were collected from different freshwater habitats in Rabwah and Sargodha cities of the Punjab Province of Pakistan during February to September 1994. They were taxonomically investigated and described for the first time from their area of collection. Species of Volvocophyta were mostly found in free-floating condition, while those of Bacillariophyta mostly occurred as epipsammon.
