Abstract:
The transmission lines, due to the use of FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) devices, are operating at high transmission levels. Because of this condition stability margin of a Power System has decreased. Fast controllers are needed to improve the transient stability of power systems. A TCPS (Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifter) controller is proposed to enhance the transient stability of a power system. The proposed controller is able to control one main parameter affecting AC (Alternating Current) power transmission: namely phase angle. The TCPS is located at the midpoint of the transmission line. The pole-assignment control design approach is employed to find the feedback control law for the TCPS. The design of the proposed controller is based on the local measurements only. The simulation results show that the proposed controller is able to enhance the transient stability of the power system under a large sudden fault.
