Viral hepatitis in obstetrical practise.

Abstract:
Hepatitis B and C are the leading cause of chronic viral hepatitis in our country. In this study the prevalence of HBV or HCV was checked in pregnant mother. In addition cord blood of the patient positive for HBV or HCV was also checked. Out of 1156 pregnant mothers only 36 (3.12%) tested +ve for viral Hepatitis. 28 were HCV +ve. The cord blood of 20 such patients was sent for viral serology and it was negative for both HBV and HCV in these patients.
