Abstract:
Cotton is one of the leading sources of foreign-exchange revenues playing a key role in the economy of Pakistan. Most of the cotton produced in the area initiates from Gossypium hirsutum (the tetrapod cotton), even though the diploid inherent species G. arboreum still subsidize to its manufacture in the region. It is feared that the Become virus-complexes, responsible for the 1st epidemics of Cotton Leaf Curl Disease (CL CuD) in the 1990s and more specifically the 2ndepidemics in the 2001-02 which was caused by a single (the Burewala) strain of Cotton Leaf Curl Kokhran Virus (CLCuKoV-Bu), might spread its circle of occupancy to regions where it is right now extinct __ as was evident from its newest invasion to parts of China, a considerably far located area from CLCuD affected zones in the Indo-Pak sub-continent. The terror was broadcasted even further when the CLCuBuV-Bu was testified in Hibiscus Rosa sinensis and inplants like Solanum melongena. Currently no single commercially available cotton or alternative host-plants are fully capable of resisting CLCuKoV-Bu. Owing to the very devastating nature of the CLCuKoV-Bu in Punjab and Sindhregions of Pakistan it was dreaded that CLCuKoV-Bu might find its way to Northern regions (Dir Upper) of Pakistan. Begomo virus-specific symptoms were observed in Brinjal and Turnip plants in Darora and Chokyatan regions of Dir (Upper). The presence of Begomo vius-complex was detected by rolling circle amplification/polymerase chain reaction (RCA/PCR) diagnostics. Through RCA/PCR, using full-length virus and beta satellite specific primers pairs, Begomo virus-complexes were amplified, cloned and sequenced. The sequencing analyses have shown these Begomo viruses-complexes from both Brinjal and Turnip plants to be CLCuKoVBu/CLCuMuB.
