Abstract:
In present study, the efficiency of removing Methylene Blue dye from water has been studied using a non-conventional biosorbent i.e. Madhuca longifolia leaves. Chemical modification of the biosorbent was done for enhancing its biosorption capacity by increasing its chelation power using formalin. Various factors which control the rate of biosorption process like; biosorbent dose, initial pH of the dye solution, contact time interval, agitation rate and temperature are studied. Desorption studies were carried out using different eluents for regenerating biosorbent. Thermodynamic and isothermal modeling was done for predicting the feasibility and mechanism of the process. The results revealed that Madhuca longifolia leaves powder is an effective biosorbent and can be used for removing cationic dyes like Methylene Blue from waste water.
