Abstract:
A field trial was conducted at University Research Farm, Pir Mehr Ali Shah, Arid AgricultureUniversity Chakwal Road, Rawalpindi to find out the influence of barley water extract alone and in combinationwith low doses of pendimethalin (pre-emergence) for weed control in mungbean during summerseason, 2009. The treatments were: Control (weedy check), Hand weeding (30 and 45 DAS), Pendimethalinherbicide @ 1.5 kg a.i. ha-1 (recommended dose), Barley W.E. @ 12 L ha-1 (20, 30, 40 and 50 DAS), BarleyW.E. + pendimethalin @ 12 L ha-1 + 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1, Barley W.E. + pendimethalin @ 12 L ha-1 + 0.75 kg a.i.ha-1, Barley W.E. + pendimethalin @ 12 L ha-1 + 0.50 kg a.i. ha-1. The combined effect of barley water extractwith pendimethalin herbicide on weeds density and weeds biomass was more pronounced than the soleapplication of barley water extract. One pre-emergence spray of barley W.E. + pendimethalin @ 12 L ha-1 +0.50 kg a.i. ha-1 reduced weeds density by 62%, fresh weight by 43% and weeds dry weight by 55% comparedto control measured at 40 DAS. One pre-emergence spray of barley W.E. + pendimethalin @ 12 L ha-1 +1.0 kg a.i. ha-1 increased grain yield by 40 % and barley W.E. + pendimethalin @ 12 L ha-1 + 0.50 kg a.i. ha-1increased mungbean grain yield by 56% relative to control. Pendimethalin @ 0.5 kg a.i. ha-1 mixed with barleywater extract may be utilized to control weeds efficiently and enhance mungbean yields.Muhammad Sajid combined with pendimethalin herbicide for weed control in mungbean.
