Abstract:
This paper is a part of an effort being devoted to the development of acoustic emission as NDT tool, especially for in service monitoring of critical structures as nuclear pressure vessel. Acoustic emission technique has been applied to the detection of void initiation, growth and coalescence in PWR pressure vessel Steel. The experimental results have shown that void nucleation and growth rate are a function of acoustic emission provides in situ information on the fracturing process in nuclear pressure vessel steel. A quantitative correlation between acoustic emission and volume fraction of voids required for localization of fracture has been established.
