An era in Astrophsics has ended with the death of Chendrasekhar. It is true that Astrophysics had been developed before Chendrasekhar and will continue after him. However, the methods and the very attitude of the subject after Chandrasekhar, bear his indelible mark. He was 84 years old when he died and about 75 years old when received the Nobel Prize for work he had done more than 50 years earlier.
