Abstract:
Describes the difficulties of translators in expressing comprehensive concepts and ideas from modern languages in Urdu. A brief description has been given of the past efforts of the Scientific Society established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, and the patronage of the noblity of Hyderabad Deccan, and the services rendered by the defunct Delhi College and later of the Osmania University in coining scientific and technical terms in Urdu conveying the correct shades of meaning. The work presently done by the Karachi University Buren of Composition, Compilation and Translation has been explained and the desirability of adopting and using the recognized terms suited to the nature and genius of the language has been emphasized. The developments took place in Pakistan during 1947-1964 in scientific and technical education are reported. Gives an idea of achievements, difficulties and future planning in development of education in Pakistan.
