Abstract:
Thirty one gram varieties, evolved by the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. were tested for their comparative resistance/susceptibility towards two bruchids. Callosobruchus analis (Fbr.) and Callosobruchus chinensis. (Linn.), during 1972. Gram variety 6136 proved immune to both the insect species, while variety 6523 (showing 10.00 per cent loss in weight) proved to be the most susceptible to the attack of C. analis and varieties 6112, 6587 and 6519 to C. chinensis. On these varieties either no eggs were laid, and if any Mid, no emergence could take place. The highly susceptible variety to C. chinensis was 6524, showing 77.05 per cent loss in weight.
