Abstract:
This survey showed that there is a pattern of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal infection of roots of young and fully grown cereals viz Arena, sorghum, barley, wheat, maize and rice under field conditions. Generally there was no cor-relation between the vesicular-arbuscular infections caused by mixed Endogenacous spore population and growth parameters, such as fresh and dry weights, or number of tillers or heights of plant or number of leaves produced. Cultivation of strongly mycorrhizal plant species did not affect the frequency of a particular Endogone spore type. In mixed Endogonaceous spore population, white reticulate spores were selectively decreased by urea (nitrogenous fertilizer) and yellow vaculate spores selectively increased. The effect of water regime, cutting host plant and the influence of plant species on the occurrence of Endogeonaceous spores and VA mycorrhiza are discussed.
