Abstract:

We report a facile synthesis of 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxanilide-1,1-dioxide(7), from readily available saccharin through an intermediate (4). This key intermediate involves 3 transformations starting from saccharin. Subsequent reaction with an appropriate amine yields the desired oxicam member. An alternate route is also followed.
