Abstract:
Problem Statement: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common diseases among both community and hospital settings. The causative agents for UTI are uropathogens including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., and other multidrug resistant uropathogens. Aim of study: The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of UTI in the community of Orakzai agency, and also the antibiotic susceptibility pattern and resistant genes of uropathogens. Methodology: Urine samples (n = 80) were collected from the Government hospital of Orakzai agency among which 40 samples were from male individuals and 40 were from female. All isolates were identified by pure culturing techniques and all the positive bacterial isolates were checked for antibiotic resistance behavior against commercially available antibiotics. Results: Among 80 samples, 24 samples were positive for E. coli and Klebsiella spp. It was observed that E. coli showed 100% resistance towards penicillin G, cefixime, nalidixic acid and doxycycline while Klebsiella spp. showed 100% of resistance towards penicillin G, and cefixime. Recommendation: It was recommended that bacterial isolates will send to PCR for the determination of different resistant genes.
