Abstract:
Soft X-rays produced by the interaction of 1.06 µm. 12 ns Nd:YAG laser pulse with graphite target have been detected by a modified BPX-65 PIN photodiodes. The transmission spectra of X-rays through metallic filters of Al (12 µm, 24 µm thickness) and Cu (12 µm thickness) were recorded at 500 MHz digital oscilloscope. Experiments were performed both in air and under ~ 10-3 torr. Experimental results revealed the fundamental properties of x-rays such as broadband continuum and short pulses. The spectral response of the diode is found to be strongly dependent on the choice of the filter as well as the atomic number of the filter. Time resolved analysis of the signals reveals that soft x-ray emission duration lasts for ~ 40 ns. This information obtained from X-ray emission represents a primary tool for the identification and exploration of various phenomena occurring in plasma.
