Abstract
N-alyl amino acid esters (C-1 to C-7) of L-alanine, L- valine and L-methionine hydrochloride have shown increase in their antimicrobial action with linear increase in the carbon of alkyl ester group. Their cyclic analogues were less active. Steric bulk at the -carbon of the amino acid also effect the activity. Comparative studies made against ampiclox, cephaloridine, penicillin V nove and vibramycine with Proteus, Pseudomonas, Klebsella and S. citreus. Results of screening for inhibition of growth are reported and discussed. Surface tension of 2% aqueous solutions of the esters are also reported.
