Abstract:
Fourteen species of grass-green algae belonging to the genera: Klebshormidium Silva, Mattox et Blackwell, Mougeotia C. A. Agardh, Oedogonium Link, Spirogyra Link, Ulothrix Kutzing and Zygnema C. A. Agardh were collected from different freshwater habitats around Lahore City of Punjab Province during July 1977 and November 1978. They were taxonomically evaluated and found to belong to the classes Ulvophyceae and Zygnemophyceae Shameel. They are being described for the first time from their area of collection and were found to grow during summer and autumn seasons. The genus Klebsormidium, its species K. subtilissium (Rabenhorst) Silva, Mattox et Blackwell and other species such as Mougeotia sinesis Li, M verrucosa Wolle, Spirogyra biformis Jao, S. neglecta (Hassall) Kutzing and Zygnema chalybeospermum Hansgirg are being reported for the first time from Pakistan.
