Abstract:
Pulmonary embolism is more common than we realize and increases as people grow older. A few are diagnosed during life, some are found to have pulmonary embolism at autopsy, but a great number of cases go undetected. Pulmonary embolism was the major cause of death in five percent of all the autopsies performed in York in 1976. Aatopsy resuts have been analysised and discussed.
