Abstract:
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is a non-destructive analytical technique used to identify and determine the concentrations of elements present in solid, powdered and liquid samples. It is a particularly powerful method for both quantitative and qualitative elemental analysis in a wide variety of matrices. In the petrochemical industry the technique has proved extremely valuable-gaining wide acceptance in determining the presence of sulphur in petroleum products, monitoring additives in lubricating oils and analyzing wear metals and debris in lubricating oil, for example. This year marks half-a-century of working closely with customers to develop and supply rugged and reliable products and technologically advanced solutions that meet the needs of the petrochemical industry. The PW 1520 XRF spectrometer that was introduced in 1954 was a breakthrough product and now, following the recent launch of the new Axios range that includes the industry configured Axios-Petro, Petro Industry News offers a timely review of the application of XRF in the petrochemical industry.
