Abstract:
The dielectric detectors are suitable for the study of heavy ion induced nuclear reactions because of their wide angle acceptance and discrimination against low ionization radiations. The threshold nature of these detectors and variability of stopping power poses certain problems regarding the compatibility of data obtained in different batches of the same detector material and different types of detectors. The factors determining the registration and revelation of tracks formed by nuclear fragments incident on a track detector are analyzed. The data on total and partial cross section measurements is discussed in the light of detector characteristics. In particular, two detector materials "Mica" and "CR-39" are compared with, in the case of the following reaction, (16.7 Mev/u)238U+natAu--->{N} heavy fragments.
