Seroprevalence of Hepatitis B and C in Females of Dargai, District Malakand and its respective causes.

Abstract:
Chronic diseases such as hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV) claim the lives of thousands of people globally every year. Several factors, including virus genotypes, the stage of infection, overall health, age, and gender, have been established as significant determinants in the progression of these infections, the prognosis of the disease, and the response to treatment. In the study, a total of 44samples were analyzed for hepatitis. Out of these, 17% were tested for HBV, with 11 (64%) individuals testing positive, while 6 (35%) tested negative. Notably, the findings indicated a higher likelihood of females testing positive for HBV. Regarding HCV, there were 27 positive cases in the overall sample, constituting 20 (47%) individuals, while 7 (14%) tested negative for HCV. The study observed a significant age-related pattern in the prevalence of HBV, with no cases reported in the 1 to 10-year age group. However, as patients aged, the occurrence of HBV increased, with individuals aged 20 to 30 years showing 18positive cases. Furthermore, one 38-year-old female tested positive for HBV. In the case of HCV, the infections were more prevalent among individuals aged 52to 60 years. These findings shed light on the varying rates of HBV and HCV infections with respect to age and gender, emphasizing the importance of understanding these demographic factors in the context of hepatitis research and management.
