Abstract:
One step synthesis of hydroxy acids (10hydroxyundecanoic acid) using newly developed method of oxymercuration demercuration of the unsaturated acid is described. This consists in treating the unsaturated acid with a yellow suspension of mercuric acetate in tatrahydrofurani/water followed by reduction of the intermediate with sodium boro-ohydride. The yield was increased by 507 and the reaction time decreased from 16 days to few hours.
