Abstract:
In the Eastern Hindu Kush region, mountain ecosystems are essential for sustaining biodiversity, controlling hydrological cycles, and supporting local livelihoods. However, the effects of climate change, such as glacier retreat, changed precipitation patterns, and an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events, pose a serious threat to these ecosystems. With an emphasis on mountain forests in the Eastern Hindu Kush, this study explores the vital connection between climate resilience and the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). The report highlights the ways in which resilience-building tactics might protect the advancement of important SDGs, including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13(Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Critical vulnerabilities and adaptation priorities are identified by the research using a mixed-method approach that includes stakeholder interviews, GIS and remote sensing analysis, and field-based ecological assessments. Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA), forest restoration, community-based resource management, and the use of GIS tools for risk mapping and monitoring are important resilience tactics. According to research, implementing these tactics into local development plans strengthens livelihood resilience, protects water resources, and promotes ecological stability-all of which support long-term SDG accomplishments. This study emphasizes how climate resilience in mountain forests is essential for sustainable development in delicate high-altitude environments, in addition to being an environmental requirement.
