Abstract
The present investigations were undertaken to carbonize Sarkanda, an agro material, in the presence of commercial sulphuric acid and zinc chloride in various concentrations at different activation temperatures. Percent yield of the product was determined and its adsorption capacity was measured against iodine and methylene blue. The best adsorption capacity was obtained at 750 oC with 5N zinc chloride in solid liquid ratio of 1:2. Increase in combustion loss as well as activity was also observed with a rise in temperature.
