Abstract:
As a result of a survey for natural enemies for sugar-cane whitefly Aleurolobus barodensis in the Punjab and the North-Western Frontier province (NWFP) seven species of parasites, Azatus dehiensts Lal, Eretmocenus sp., Prospaltetla flaw Shafee, P. udaipuriensis Shafee, Euderomphale sp., Tetrastichus sp., and Amitus aleurolobi Mani, and six species of predators, Brumoides suturalis (F.), C a t e n a parcesetosa (Sic.), Chrysopa cornea Steph., Oenopia sauzeri M u l s . Scymnus sp. and S. nubitus Muls., were recorded. Population density of the whitefly was very high and parasitism very low in the NWFP where insecticides are aerially sprayed as compared with the Punjab where serial spraying is not done. The effect of augmentation of native parasites Amitus aleurolobi and Azotus delhiensis on whitefly was encouraging as with increase in its parasitism the whitefly population was drastically reduced.
