Abstract:
The suitability of the proportional counter as a broad range charged particle spectrometer for the study of nuclear reactions was investigated at Manchester University and is reported in this paper. An energy resolution of 1.6 per cent with 8 Mev protons was achieved. The energy range available was 6 Mev at one atmosphere filling. The ground and the first excited states of Elm from the reaction B10 (d,p) B11 was studied. Absolute differential cross-sections at 5.1 Mev and 6.07 Mev deutron energies were obtained.
