Abstract:
Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Technology offers an attractive alternative of conventional pulverized coal and natural gas power generation in terms of cycle efficiency & emission compliance. But while operating cost is low, the high capital cost of IGCC has threatened its competitiveness. The improvement in turbine, gas clean up and other design addresses the challenge of high capital cost. The competitive nature of power generation industry could threaten the IGCC Technology. For a developing country like Pakistan, it is obligatory that all energy options must be pursued vigorously including coal utilization, which is considered to be one of the major options for the future use.
