Abstract:
In the course of pharmacochemical studies in the harmine series of bases, a number of new derivatives of tetrahydroharmine have been obtained and characterized through spectral studies. Antibacterial tests show that I, II, V-VIII and XII have significant activity against a number of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Studies on their effect on central nervous system show that 11-VII, XII, XVI-HCI and XVII-HCI are CNS stimulants, whereas IX-XI and XV exhibit some signs of depression.
