Abstract

CONTEXT – Offshore Software development outsourcing which is also referred as off shoring is rising constantly. However it is not a risk free activity as various off shoring projects have been failed. One of the major issues in off shoring is that many vendors endorse outsourcing contracts with their clients prior to test their readiness for the outsourcing activity. OBJECTIVE – The objective of this research project is to develop a software outsourcing vendor readiness model to help off shoring vendors in assessing their readiness for offshore software development projects. In this paper the authors have discussed the design of a systematic literature review (SLR) in the form of a SLR protocol. METHOD – A SLR is being conducted to identify the factors and barriers that can have a positive or negative impact on software outsourcing clients during the selection process of software outsourcing vendors. A systematic literature review is different from ordinary review as it is based on a structured protocol. We are in the process of designing and implementation of the protocol for software outsourcing vendors readiness model (SOVRM). EXPECTED OUTCOME – The anticipated outcome of this project will be a software outsourcing readiness model to assist software practitioners in the design of effective software outsourcing strategies. This model should assist outsourcing vendors in measuring the strength or weakness of software outsourcing activities.
