Abstract:
The current study was carried out at Sheringal valley, Dir Upper to find out the occupancy of amphibian’s population in three different habitats viz riparian, agriculture and forest. An extensive field surveys were conducted from June2020 to August 2020. During the field work different physical parameters like temperature, humidity and water level were recorded along with the amphibian specimens. In this entire field work total 89 specimens were collected and then photographed. Out of 89 specimens 51 were collected from the riparian habitat,38 from the agriculture while no species was found in forest habitat. The samples were identified with the help of dichotomous taxonomic keys and experts which confirmed that they are different phenotypes based on habitats ,sex, age and belong to single species Bufo stomaticus and order Anura (Salientia). Similarly, percentage of occupancy at habitat wise is 57.3%, 42.7%and 0% respectively. Riparian habitat was declared as the most favorable followed by agriculture habitat due to abundant food sources, vicinity to the water, whereas forest habitat was declared as the poorest for the survival of Indus valley toad due to the distance from the water and abundance of predators. In the survey no major threats were observed to the species. According to IUCN the conservation status of the species is Least Concern (LC) while the species was found to be most abundant and widely spread in the study area.
