Temperature dependence tensile properties of iron and nickel based alloys.

Abstract:
Mechanical behaviour of solids at elevated temperature is controlled primarily by thermally activated process. Several precipitation hardening nickel and iron based alloys are mainly used for high temperature applications1'2. The present work is aimed to study the tensile properties of thin foils of pure Ni, SS 316, nickel and iron based alloys in the range varying from room temperature to 800C. It is observed that the yield and ultimate tensile strengths of all materials decrease with increasing temperature but SS 316 shows some superior strength to all other materials studied.
