Abstract:
The vegetation of Machiara National Park (MNP) was studied at four different zones during April- November 2004. The area was divided into four zones on the basis of vegetation type, GPS (Ground Positioning System) and GIS (Geographical Information System) image. The zones were again divided into 28 stands/habitat types on physiognomic characteristics of vegetation. Quadrat method was applied for sampling vegetation. Each layer of vegetation was sampled separately. Communities were named after one, two or three species having the highest and closely approaching Importance Values (IV). On this basis 27, 28 and 28 different plant communities were respectively recognized from tree, shrub and herb layer of vegetation. Highest dominant (community makers) were recognized from each layer of vegetation on the basis of highest IV. The area is mainly occupied by 04 dominant trees, 07 dominant shrubs and 23 dominant herbs. Plant communities are recognized on the basis of qualitative and quantitative attributes of vegetation. Certain climatic factors, topographic factors and man`s role as biotic factor are given special consideration.
