Abstract:
In the present research work leaching kinetics of zinc sulfide is investigated by citric acid. The influence of various experimental parameters (acid concentration, reaction temperature and stirring speed) is determined to optimize the leaching process of zinc sulfide. From the results, it is evaluated that the dissolution kinetic of zinc sulfide increases with an increase in reaction temperature, and acid concentration. The leaching kinetic data is analyzed using graphical and statistical methods and it is inferred that the dissolution kinetics of zinc sulfide follows the shrinking core model. A kinetic model is derived for the leaching of zinc sulfide in citric acid solutions. From the kinetic model it is evaluated that the leaching kinetics of zinc sulfide is the chemically controlled reaction. The apparent activation energy is calculated for the leaching reaction of zinc sulfide with citric acid and is found 40.2 kJmol-1 at 313 to 343 K.
