Abstract:
Part 1 – Aligning Mentorship, Goal Setting, and Personal Values for Successful Research CareersIn the pursuit of excellent quality care, healthcare providers sometimes lack the time or energy needed to reflect. Without metabolizing the challenging aspects of patient care, burnout can set in. Narrative Medicine (NM) is a reflective practice that can be used to mitigate a decrease in provider morale, by reviving their connection to the meaning of their work. In addition to helping providers attend to their own needs, NM can be used to cultivate empathy for patients, as well as to inspire creativity, nuanced perspective, sustainable hope, and camaraderie.
