Abstract:
To describe a technique for primary scleral fixation of IOL when cataract extraction is complicated by capsular rupture and vitreous loss. In 12 patients in which there was no proper capsular support at the time of cataract extraction, primary scleral fixation was performed with the technique described in this paper. In 11 patients the lens was well centered postoperatively. In one patient the IOL was decentered 6 weeks after operation. This patient also developed retinal detachment. The technique can be useful for primary scleral fixation when adequate capsular support for intraocular lens is not present.
