Abstract:
This finding is a part of our research project regarding exploration of lichen flora of Margalla Hills, Islamabad, Pakistan. This area is expanded over approximately 12,600 hectares, consisting of mountain wilderness, an urban recreation and cultural center, and a large natural reservoir. Three saxicolous lichen taxa Endocarpon superpositum, Verrucaria fusconigrescens and V. polysticta were collected for the first time from Pakistan. These members of Verrucariaceae were identified using combined techniques of micro morphological, anatomical, chemical characters and internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) based phylogenetic analysis. Comprehensive morpho-anatomical descriptions, ecology and along with molecular analyses are provided.
