Abstract:
The partition behaviour of acetic and chloroacetic acids at different temperatures between 1-pentanol and water has been studied. The partition coefficient of acetic acid increases gradually from 298° K to 328° K. At higher temperatures, 338°K and 348°K, the partition ratio becomes constant. In case of monochloroacetic acid, the partition coefficient Co/Cw decreases as the temperature rises. The temperature effect for trichloroacetic acid has been reported. The distribution coefficient increases from 298°K to 318°K. At higher temperatures, from 328°K to 348°K, the situation is reversed. The thermodynamic parameters of acetic and chloroacetic acids at various temperatures have also been calculated.
