Abstract:
Systematic collections of all ticks infesting sheep and goats were carried out during April 1978 and March 1980, in five ecologically differing areas in Sind Province. A total of 63008 adult ticks comprising 16 species were recorded. Goats harboured all the 16 species while sheep hosted 13 species. Rhipicephalus turanicus, the most numerous and widely distributed tick in the region, infested both sheep and goats but was more frequent on goats. Hyalorrma a. anatolicum was equally widely distributed and followed R. turanicus in numbers and also infested sheep and goats. Rhipicephalus haemmphysaloides though occurred in each area, but chiefly in Area 4 and was more frequent on goats. The incidence of Hyalommm dromedarii was high in desert Area 5 than the other 4 Areas, sheep were more infested than goats. The occurrence of Boophilus annulatus, B. microplus and H. marginatum issaci were mainly in Area 4. The prevalence of both species of Boophilus was more on goats, whereas H. marginatum issaci was more on sheep.
