Abstract:
The rose-ringed parakeet, Psittacula krameri (Scopoli), is found abundantly throughout the non-mountained regions of Pakistan. It is considered to be one of the most destructive agricultural pests on oil seedcrops, cereal crops and fruit orchards. In view of economic importance of this bird pest the present study was conducted at Karachi university campus in order to evaluate the effectiveness and seasonal potential of the trap for capturing the live parakeets. A new decoy trap named "Parotrap" was used for capturing live parakeets. It is concluded that the protrap can be useful to limit the population of parakeets at appropriate level when practiced from November through March.
