Abstract:
Antimicrobial resistance is a common health concern these days that leads to failure of therapy. Citrus Bergamia is known for several biological activities including antimicrobial activities. In this project, we explored the potential of Citrus Bergamia flower (CBF) essential oil for activities against Biofilm producer strains of Acentobacter baumanii. The MIC results showed that CBF essential oil effective inhibition against oral pathogen Staphlococcus aureus (MIC 0.5 mg/mL) and streptococcus epidermidis (MIC 0.5mg/mL) was recorded. In case of Acinetobacter baumanii strain A 75 (MIC 0.25mg/mL), A76(MIC 0.25mg/mL), and A77(MIC 0.125mg/mL) was recorded. The essential oil was further analsyed in diverse concentration for antibiofilm activities and strong inhibition of biofilm produced by A75 (65%), A76 (78%) and A77 (62%) was recorded. The antioxidant activity was also performed by H2O2 and showed 58% inhibition, whereas a strong inhition of DPPH (78%) was recorded. It was therefore concluded that Citrus Bergamia flower essential oil can be employed against bacterial infection due to strong antioxidant properties.
